Stolen from [livejournal.com profile] daria234, who nabbed it from [personal profile] rabidchild67, who got it from [personal profile] frith_in_thorns. This meme is like a cold that won't go away...

You post a topic, list, category, whatever, in comments. (Examples: "Five Dates X Regretted Going On," or "Five Things Y Has On His Shelf", etc.) I'll answer with a list of five things.

Fandoms I know enough to write in: White Collar, Avengers, Leverage, Chuck, Sky High, Star Trek Reboot, the Valdemar book series, maybe others (just ask!).

Disclaimer: I may not finish every response, but I will do my best! ♥

I'm feeling vaguely lonely. Play with me?

Pick any passage of 500 words or less from any fanfic I’ve written, and comment to this post with that selection. I will then give you the equivalent of a DVD commentary on that snippet: what I was thinking when I wrote it, why I wrote it in the first place, what’s going on in the characters' heads, why I chose certain words, what this moment means in the context of the rest of the fic, lots of awful puns, and anything else that you’d expect to find on a DVD commentary track.

The best way to find my fic is on AO3, unless you want to find my Grimm fic, which is only on DW/LJ (findable via the tags). No particular reason why those haven't been uploaded yet. I just procrastinate unevenly.

DID YOU GUYS KNOW THAT THERE ARE REAL LIVE CACTUSES IN THE DESERT? LIKE, FOR REAL?

*stares out the window*

In more serious news: It seems like a lot of folks are having a rough time right now. Maybe it's because the weather's changing, maybe because it's the end/beginning of semesters, or maybe it's because sometimes life just kicks you in the balls/ovaries for no reason at all.

So if you've been having a crap day/week/month/year/life, or are expecting to go through a rough/busy/depressing/stressful/unpleasant time sometime soon, you should request a fic from me. Even if all that's happened is that you stubbed your toe--which can suck, especially if it's your little toe, because then you feel like a bully--you should request something. Think of it as a hug-substitute (because if we were close together, I would hug you, because I am huggy. Also if we were close together you too would be in the DESERT where there are CACTUSES).

You can check my fandom tags for things I'm familiar with (and also add everything Jeremy Renner's ever done, and Parks & Rec). I'll write any pairings, ratings, and kinks. Request whatever would be the written equivalent of (vegetarian) chicken soup for your soul. I know it's not much, but I'd like to help if I can.

As always, anon commenting is enabled.

I adore you all! [Also I adore cactuses! But I like you guys more. Probably.]

SO. TIRED.

An update on life: two weeks ago I started my second year of a three-year MFA program in theatre. This semester is going to be more laidback than last year was (which is good, because last year nearly killed me), but these first few weeks are REALLY FUCKING BUSY. I hate feeling like I'm behind or playing catch-up, and that's all I've been doing so far this semester. ARGH.

I'm heading back to St. Louis for Labor Day weekend, and am going to catch up on my flist (and read about a dozen plays) then. I am so, so sorry that I am so far behind on replying to comments and reading peoples epic fics and commenting on them. I'll be back soon! ♥ And I hope you are all doing well.

In the meantime, because I love this meme, and I have a few sporatic bursts of freetime today interspersed with errands/rehearsals/casting meetings:

STUMP ME, BITCHES. MAKE MY DAY.

1. Go through my fics (via my tag on LJ or my archive at AO3) and pick out a sentence from one of my stories.

2. I have to guess what story it's from and I'll give you some backstory or DVD-commentary for the excerpt

3. If I guess wrong, you get to ask me for a drabble, prompting me wtih a situation and characters.

I ganked this from the lovely [livejournal.com profile] elrhiarhodan, who's playing here.

On a crowded bus today for 14 hours of travel. WHEEEE! Full report on a lovely trip to MN later. In the meantime: a meme! Ganked from [livejournal.com profile] rubynye. :-)

When I write a story, what do you immediately look for?

WATCH OUT, MINNIEMOUSEANNAPOLIS!

I'MMA COMIN' TO GETCHU.

Since I'm going to be spending the day catnapping/cursing the wifi for blocking Netflix/writing, I thought that I would do a meme! \o/

The first five people to comment on this post get to request that I write a drabble/ficlet of any pairing/character of their choosing. In return, they have to post this in their journal, regardless of their ability level.

I think all of my fandoms are listed in the tags (with the exception of Suits, which I marathoned over the weekend, and Criminal Minds). If you're not sure whether or not I've seen something, just ask! I watch a lot of TV, so odds are good I'm at least vaguely familiar with it.

If you want to play the meme but NOT repost and play on your own LJ, you can absolutely still make a request, but please make a note to that effect in your comment so that I can prioritize/encourage the folks playing along at home. :-)
hoosierbitch: (Default)

Leave a comment here (can be anything, including just the time of day), and I will reply with three reasons why I think you're great.

In return, you have to post this same meme on your blog.

...that was less productive than I had hoped.

I've had bad writer's block for a while, but it's different than usual. Usually I get past it by just forcing myself to start writing anything. This time, I'm just--I'm not interested in my story ideas. When I finish a story, I'm so bored with it I don't even bother posting it, because they're all kind of variations on a theme at this point. I've always had a problem with predictability, but now it's becoming a mental block instead of a challenge. Like. I've been avoiding fandom because I'm just so goddamn frustrated with myself. Other people come up with intriguing plots and can write novel-length stories and surprise and reward their readers with their fics and I'm--just--BLARGH. I'm stuck in pretty prose and angsty boys. Like I'm doing the same paint-by-numbers stories over and over again.

I did the anonymous writing feedback meme back in January, and got some incredibly helpful feedback. A lot of very nice positive comments (thank you!), and some constructive criticism (thank you!), especially about the repetitiveness of my storylines/tone. I should really not be surprised that you guys know me better than I know me at this point.

So I want to work on stretching myself (THAT'S WHAT HE SAID), only I don't, like, know how. Help me, freakishly-talented-flist?

  1. How do you break yourselves out of writing ruts?
  2. Are there any suggestions you have for things that I should try? An AU that brings up an issue I haven't dealt with before, an idea for a way impose an interesting structure on a story, a plotline/scene that you think I could write that is different from what I usually tackle?
  3. Why do you write?

You can leave feedback here, or on my thread from the anonymous meme. Anonymous comments are enabled in both locations. Thank you in advance, lovelies.

HOME!

hoosierbitch: (S Despicable Me pick me)
First off: I am at home, but not at Panera (I NO RITE?). Yesterday was kind of crazy, so I decided to stay home today and make delicious food and do my laundry and enjoy the house to myself for the day. My folks are flying back home tonight (they were out visiting my Awesome Little Sister, who's taking a semester off from school to Find Herself. Which I know is a cliche, but when she does it, it involves volunteering in prisons and reading Sophocles and working at vegan restaurants. She is so cool. I want to be like her when I grow up). So now I am ensconced on the couch!

I'm not participating in any of the most recent charity auctions because I'm still trying to finish three other charity fics (because I have been insanely busy. And by insanely, I mean: four out of seven days last week I left my apartment before 9am and didn't have time to get back until after 11pm. I live five minutes away from campus. Theatre = crazy). SO I WILL SIGNAL BOOST:

They've also got a really nice post collecting links to affiliates here

If anyone wants to promote their threads at any of these auctions in the comments, PLEASE DO!

RL Babble )

AND NOW A MEME: I ganked this from [livejournal.com profile] vaingirlfic!

Ask me about a pairing (or character) I have written (or haven't and you think I should write) and I will give you five facts about them or a ficlet or a song that is CLEARLY THEIR SONG or what they order from the Chinese place down the street, etc, etc.

(Oh, and if you want a version of a character/pairing from a specific story or verse, by all means specify!)

PLEASE PLAY! I'm trying to ease back into writing groove.

hoosierbitch: (S Picard oh squee indeed)
Hi, folks! Life is still crazy busy and stressful and expensive, but it's also challenging and inspiring and interesting. Yay balance. :-)

I'm working on three fics sort of simultaneously right now, which I don't usually do - but I've been doing a lot more writing by hand, since my computer's a bit unreliable. It's affecting my methods...hopefully for the better. My goal is to have one finished by the end of the weekend. Folks have been posting lists of their WIP titles, so here's what I've been calling these in my head: body!swap, HIV, and EAT MY DUST, AFIAWRI (aka: multitasking).

We had a run-through tonight, for the show I'm assistant directing, and it was fucking fantastic. One of the best performances I've ever seen. Brought me to tears. And energized me, which is why I'm not asleep right now! And thus: A MEME.

I got this from EVERYONE IN THE ENTIRE WORLD:

Leave a ONE WORD comment that you think best describes me (or my works if you don't really know me). It can only be one word. I will accept hyphenates. Then copy & paste this post to your own journal (if you want to!) so I can leave a word about you.

Anonymous comments are always welcome! :D
