hoosierbitch: (S Doll eye.)
Hi folks! Uh, obviously, it's been a long time since I've been on LJ. Tumblr ate my life. But! I am back for a bit (and then hopefully more, to post random thoughts and also fics, because I miss my LJ peeps).

I want to signal boost [livejournal.com profile] fandomaid's latest campaign to raise money after the earthquake in Nepal. They're doing a 'Buy It Now' round to get things moving quickly. Those of you who are creators of things (fic, art, crafts, food, podfic, other things too probably) can offer whatever you feel comfortable with. Those of you who have some money to give can make donations to a relevant charity of your choice AND receive awesome things. If you are neither of those things, you can still signal boost!

My thread is here, and I'm offering two fics in various fandoms (including White Collar). There are a lot of other offers already there--come look at all the awesomeness!

Me and Arsenic's Marvel/White Collar epic is posted!

Like an Arrow Through a Flock of Doves

Summary: When he takes the rap for a crime committed by Barney and the Swordsman, Clint is charged as an adult at 17 and spends the next four years of his life without protection in prison. Enter one Neal Caffrey, who knows how to charm his way to whatever he wants or needs, and Clint's life gets a lot more interesting. Pretty much, the story of Clint in prison, Clint getting out, and Clint, like always, finding his way to SHIELD, and Phil.

The link's to AO3. READ THE WARNINGS. The fic has some pretty explicit/brutal hurt, but I think the comfort makes it worth it. The response so far has been overwhelming and really touching. I hope y'all can take some time and read it, and then go look at the amazing artwork for it (it's linked to in the fic, and is REALLY GOOD).

The longest piece I wrote before this was 30k, and it took me over a year. The fact that I cowrote something for the first time--and that it ended up being 62k--wouldn't have happened without AJ's support. She nudged me, encouraged me, and put up with me when I said things like "I HAVE A GREAT IDEA FOR A SCENE TO WRITE!" and she had to reply: "...we already wrote that." She also took care of basically everything once we finished the first draft, since I was kind of worn out by then, and swamped by the show I've been working on.

MY SHOW: IS OPENING! It opens tonight and runs through tomorrow (a short run for so much work, but this is how our program manages to support as many productions as it does). I think it's one of the best shows I've ever directed, and probably the best show I've done since I got into grad school. I hope the cast and tech crew take the show tonight and make it theirs. Our tech week was exceptionally rocky, and more last-minute changes were made than are ideal, but I think it ended up really fucking good. My folks are driving up now (we might get, like, ten minutes to have dinner together before I have to run to the theatre and take care of about ten last-minute things--the stage managers are new...). Thank you to all the friends who have been supportive and patient while I've been MIA. I love you all!

If you like to write and you love White Collar, then join us at [profile] whitecollarlas for a new challenge! You’ll get a new prompt every 2 weeks and write a short piece of at least 100 words. All pairings, genres and ratings are welcome! Each round will have anonymous voting, with the highest scorers progressing, until only one author is left standing! You don’t need to be a great writer to take part – just join in and have fun! SIGN UP HERE!

I've never done an LAS activity before--it looks like fun! I could do with some boundary-pushing in my writing. I'm also looking forward to it because hopefully, it'll keep me writing during the school year.

And also because I AM COMPETITIVE. BRING IT ON, BITCHES.

...in other (nicer) words--come play! \o/

I'm taking six classes this semester, directing a show, preparing for my thesis in the Spring, applying for jobs for next year, and ideally I'll stage manage/act in at least one more show on top of that. Which is...ridiculous. But voluntary. There are a lot of great classes offered this semester (including on on feminism and the media, I AM SO EXCITED). I'm hoping that things like [livejournal.com profile] whitecollarlas and [livejournal.com profile] ficfinishing will help me get writing done this semester. I also hope that I do not die. O.o

I'm spending tomorrow at home, soaking in the love and tension of family, then driving back up to TinyTown on Friday! I was talking to [personal profile] elrhiarhodan about how the time's kind of flown by--I was just starting to dip my toes into fandom at the same time I was applying for grad school programs.

I FEEL ALL GROWN UP.

I'm going to go work more on the dyslexia!verse. I'm bad at planning and good at procrastinating, so what I did was I posted the first chapter of the sequel, hoping that having it out in the world would make me write the concluding part faster.

That did not work.

What I want to do is go back and radically change the last part of Alright Is Two Different Words, then I've got one chapter about ready to go, and I Have A Plan for the part after that (which would be the third and last chapter of 'Alright'). It feels unkosher to take back something that I already published, but. BUT I HAD A BETTER AND SADDER IDEA. IT INVOLVES GOO AND FEELINGS.

(ALSO I FOUND THE ICON OF MY HEART. [livejournal.com profile] cookielaura MADE IT. I NOW LOVE HER. AND CAT!NEAL'S ANKLET. I WANT TO EAT HIM WITH A SPOON...)

GUYS GUYS

YOU GUYS

[livejournal.com profile] ivorysilk WROTE ME [livejournal.com profile] wcpairings FIC

AND IT'S TITLED "CAKE OR DEATH"

WHICH IS FROM EDDIE IZZARD

AND THEN IT JUST GETS BETTER AFTER THAT.

HERE IS SOME OF IT:

As soon as Elizabeth Burke left the shop, Mozzie turned to him and hissed, "You are way out of your league."

Neal smiled. "Oh, harmless flirting. It’s like a dance."

“No,” snapped Mozzie. “Her husband is an FBI agent. There is no dance. You better not even be on her dance card. No dancing for you.”

So, Neal and Moz run The Greatest Cake bakery, and Elizabeth's catering company uses them for their events--and she goes in one day, and meets their lovely eccentric chef.

Neal bakes naked, Moz goes through his white period, Peter needs reassurance and then gets a cake pop, and Elizabeth is a BAMF. This alternative canon is smart, and it's got these great shout-outs to the original pilot, and I just need for there to be more of it because it's so fucking good.

YOU SHOULD READ IT

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH I'M SO HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAPPY

For all y'all folks who were wondering how to meet new people on DW, here's an open panfandom friending meme! There's not a ton of White Collar or Grimm folks representing yet, which makes pandas sad. Go forth and multiply! And signal boost! And pooooorn! (Mah thread is here. Er. In case anyone reading my DW/LJ is not already friends with me. YOU SHOULD BE. I AM VERY TALL.)

Many Things

IMPORTANT THING #1: I DUN BOUGHT A 'PUTER!

*is nervouxcited*

I bought a netbook, 'cause it's what I can afford, and it's gonna be here tomorrow! OH, THE PORN WE WILL WRITE/WATCH TOGETHER.

IMPORTANT THING #2: I'MMA GOIN' TO MINNEAPOLIS!

My folks' birthday present to my brother this year is to fly me and my sister out at separate times to see him. It's a weird present (and not the most financially sound decision), but Brother's happy about it, and I like aeroplanes! (I also like spelling airplane that way because I like to pronounce it with three syllables. Ayer-o-planes! Oooooh!) I don't know my dates yet, but I should know within a day or...three or four. Like I said, my family is REALLY BAD AT PLANNING.

Do any of you live there and want to get together for coffee and squee?

IMPORTANT THING #3: DRINKING & WRITING = AWESOME HILARITY

It is a community to join other people who are tipsy and trying to write. First round's August 12th! :D I may be writing from Minneapolis. I wonder what my bro would make of that...

IMPORTANT THING #PORN:

In my episode reactions I include "fic that I want to read now" lists, and OMG Y'ALL PEOPLE DUN WROTE THEM. AND THEY ARE FANTASTIC.

A) The brilliant-as-always [livejournal.com profile] daria234 wrote AMAZING Neal/Keller that is dark and twisted and complex, showing the hidden sides that these two men bring out in each other. YOU SHOULD READ IT.

B) Y'know how Jones wore that shirt one time? And then he and Neal were all "LOL WE SHOULD SEX EACH OTHER" when they were in the van last episode? (I'm paraphrasing just a little.) [livejournal.com profile] rabidchild67 wrote AWESOME Neal/Jones porn. IT IS SRSLY AWESOME. YOU SHOULD READ IT.

C) POOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORN!!!!!!!!! Neal/Peter, fucking against a wall, by [livejournal.com profile] elrhiarhodan. Need I say more? REEEEEAD IIIIIIIT.
hoosierbitch: (S Feet & &)
Hi!

Not dead.

Still kind of roller-coastering on moods, but definitely improving. Two more weeks of school (one more of classes, then a week of finals), a week to pack up and clean, and then back home for the summer! I am going to write SO MUCH PORN.

*happy sigh*

[livejournal.com profile] mmom

To kick that off - [livejournal.com profile] photoash made a post reminding everyone that next month is the Merry Month of Masturbation! Come celebrate with all your fellow fandom peeps at this lovely lovely comm! I played last year, and while I only ended up with a couple of days worth, they ended up being some of my favorite porny pieces. :-)
Community Details )

Since I am a bit out of practice with the porn...prompt me?

HOME!

hoosierbitch: (S Despicable Me pick me)
First off: I am at home, but not at Panera (I NO RITE?). Yesterday was kind of crazy, so I decided to stay home today and make delicious food and do my laundry and enjoy the house to myself for the day. My folks are flying back home tonight (they were out visiting my Awesome Little Sister, who's taking a semester off from school to Find Herself. Which I know is a cliche, but when she does it, it involves volunteering in prisons and reading Sophocles and working at vegan restaurants. She is so cool. I want to be like her when I grow up). So now I am ensconced on the couch!

I'm not participating in any of the most recent charity auctions because I'm still trying to finish three other charity fics (because I have been insanely busy. And by insanely, I mean: four out of seven days last week I left my apartment before 9am and didn't have time to get back until after 11pm. I live five minutes away from campus. Theatre = crazy). SO I WILL SIGNAL BOOST:

They've also got a really nice post collecting links to affiliates here

If anyone wants to promote their threads at any of these auctions in the comments, PLEASE DO!

RL Babble )

AND NOW A MEME: I ganked this from [livejournal.com profile] vaingirlfic!

Ask me about a pairing (or character) I have written (or haven't and you think I should write) and I will give you five facts about them or a ficlet or a song that is CLEARLY THEIR SONG or what they order from the Chinese place down the street, etc, etc.

(Oh, and if you want a version of a character/pairing from a specific story or verse, by all means specify!)

PLEASE PLAY! I'm trying to ease back into writing groove.

hoosierbitch: (G all of us will learn)
I hardly ever rec fic, but I'm gonna post a link to this one, because I read pretty much the entire thing with tears streaming down my face and am left with a broken heart and an overwhelming need to go reread The Iliad. Which is kind of an amazing thing, I think, for a fic to leave you with.

Everyone knows that [livejournal.com profile] daria234 is brilliant, yes? She is stunningly talented, so very friendly, and capable of approaching ideas in the most creative ways imaginable. Her prompts are legendary, and her fics are always so damn insightful it's scary

And this fic just broke my heart. It's called "Learning Curve," it's Chuck/Bryce, and here's the paragraph she used to describe it:

Chuck/Bryce in college, studying ancient Greece. In which Bryce recites Sappho to Chuck, Chuck thinks Odysseus is a sneaky bastard, and Bryce comes up with some very creative ways (i.e., sexytimes) to motivate Chuck to study.

Now, I took ancient Greek in college and studied the classics for years, and I wish I had a fraction of the insight into them that Daria has brought to this fic. That is how good she is.

You should read it.

(In other news, [livejournal.com profile] elrhiarhodan is running another round of her fabulous prompt fest! You should absolutely go play if you have some time. It's a wonderful way to meet new folks and get some good writing done!)
