ivorysilk gave me the ideas for most of the flashback sections, and also was a lovely cheerleader. rabidchild67 was kind enough to beta for me! Any remaining mistakes are all mine.
Notes: This was written for the amazingarsenicjade. I combined three of her prompts as best I could: “It's just that he's not used to having people who care what he does, other than because they're sure he's going to mess up,” and “The last time Neal got any sicker than a mild cold, he'd been dumped from a job by his employer. It's beyond his comprehension that being sick might mean being taken care of, or, at the very least, people going easy on him,” with a little bit of Neal-not-realizing-that-Elizabeth-loves-him-too thrown in for good measure.
Summary: Three times Neal’s been sick, and the one time someone takes care of him.
