HOLY CRAP Y'ALL!
GUESS WHO LIKES PORN AND JUST GOT INTO GRAD SCHOOL?
ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OH MY FLIPPING GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWD, Y'AWL!
So it's a 3-year program, gaurunteed assitantship and tuition waiver all three years, the head of the program is SO KICK ASS IDEK, and the other student entering the program (who would be my partner for the next three years) WAS IN A SHOW I JUST ASSISTANT DIRECTED AND SHE IS SO AMAZING AND AWESOME AND DOES FEMINIST GUERILLA THEATRE. WHAT? WHAT?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??! THE CHANCES OF THAT ARE SO INFENTESSIMAL THAT I DON'T EVEN CARE THAT I DON'T KNOW HOW TO SPELL INFENTESSIMAL. THAT IS REALLY REALLY SMALL. WHAT?!?!?!?!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Downsides: it is in a tiny podunk town, the school's not a great school, which isn't ideal when looking far down the road (it's not Yale, basically).
UPSIDES: I would get to direct a show every semester, they've got the resources to do huge musicals (GOSPEL AT COLONUS I AM LOOKING AT YOU), I could write and direct my own shows - AND IT'S CLOSE TO HOME (ASSUMING THE 'RENTS DON'T MOVE).
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I too, just got into grad school. Unfortunately, it's REALLY far from the only home/state I've ever known, but they're giving me 5 years full funding (tuition, stipend & health insurance (via a TA/RAship)) w/a guy who is literally tops in his field, nationally & internationally, who's churned out top level career students. (Somewhat related to my passions-- a different branch of biology.) It's in a mid-size city, ok/decent school (I went to one of the best public schools in the world for undergrad.). So I know what you're going through. Really.
Mine was a cross of your reaction and 'this is NOT real. it's not.'
And, in then end, when I started to think about it, I realized there wasn't THAT much to think about. People don't get handed these types of chances often. And without SERIOUS bigtime mitigating circumstances, nothing but fear can hold you back.
If you want someone to talk to about the whole deciding part, I'd be happy to. It's still a process with me.
(Especially with someone who likes to flail too. :-D)
