FML.

So my car's been making a squeaky noise for weeks. In preparation for the three hour drive home, and with Spring Break approaching, I brought it in to a garage. I got my car back with a new alternator on Thursday morning, and left town early Saturday morning.

The car died 4 miles out of town. I got it towed back to the same garage, which didn't open until this morning. They cleaned some cables, declared it fixed, and I picked it up an hour and a half ago to drive home. Didn't even make it out of town this time. Thankfully I coasted into a parking lot before it gave up completely.

AAA's gonna be here in an hour, and there's a cafe about .5 miles from the car place, so I think I'll set up shop there while I wait for the new alternator to be replaced with a newer alternator. Don't want to abuse my borrowing-rides-from-friends privileges.

The AAA guy I talked to today was the same guy from Saturday - I told him what the deal was, and his response was "Hey, don't you have to get to St. Louis to walk your dogs?"

To which I replied: "omg, y'all take detailed records..." Then I figured out it was the same guy. My folks have gotten some coworkers to walk to the dogs, thank god, but they're both gonna be stir crazy.

Hopefully, in 7-8 hours, I will be home. If not, I will be homicidal.

For now, I'mma just lean my seat back, be thankful for my phone, and get started on some homework.

Yay break?

At least you got stranded in or near a town. I shall not bore you with the miles of corn story, because that's all there was for...miles. ><

I hope that your car is fixed for good now. {{hugs}}

I do hope that you will give the mechanic hell for what they have put you through and I'd make them not charge you for the newer alternator.

There but for the grace of god go I! I don't even want to think about getting my car fixed. I've spent enough money on it last year. And there is a $200-$600 issue looming, depending on if they have to drill through the distributor cap and what they find. Since it is not affecting the car other than running a little rough, I'm sticking my fingers in my ears and singing "lalalalala" at least until I can get the money together.

Good luck on getting home!

Exactly -- Be firm and polite but don't waver on their responsibility to you as a customer. Read your receipt you just received to see what policies they may have and demand everything you are entitled to!

I am so sorry to hear that B :( Have car drama is always super stressful and I know you were really looking forward to being home and relaxing!!

I hope they can get it fixed ASAP and you can be on your way home soon!

Should you get desperate enough, you can crawl under your car and hit the alternator a few times with a wrench and your car should start *1* more time so you can drive it to the shop - this wrecks the alternator but since it's already wrecked that shouldn't be an issue >_> - I have utilized this as a last resort and it does work (you can even get lucky and get *2* starts out of it) :) have to google to figure out what to look for!

Just think of it this way, things can only get better. You'll have a lovely Spring Break and everything will go smoothly once you get home cause you've already used up all your bad luck.

HOME! & happy.

Two frantic dogs and a blasé cat. Life is good.

Last half of the drive was rough (bad weather). Gonna have a glass of wine and crash on the couch.

Tomorrow? PORN AND PANERA!

I feel for you. Had the exact prob... Well sort of. Lol I have a dodge 2007. Its battery light came on, we replaced the battery. A day later we broke down at 930 pm a mile from home. Got it towed. Assumed it was the alternator. Replaced that and its core. A week later broke down twenty yards from home on the same time. Battery was dead. Went to the place I bought the battery. It should have been reading at 525 volts or whatever and it read 420. They said it was still "ok"... I called my uncle. He called them, and ten min later I had a new battery... Battery light came pn a week later... Broke down at my aunts house. Towed it to the dealership. Needed to have all the electrical cords replaced...

I am ready to burn this car and get the insurance money... I really am... Lol but I hope you get home alright soon!
