DOG!

So my life's been pretty crazy lately--I'm working a full-time job at a call center (it's all incoming calls, mostly pretending to be a receptionist and scheduling appointments and taking messages). It's about as good as a call center job can be, but it still makes my brain sad. On top of that I'm working a part time job two-three nights a week--that one's actually making outbound "Gimme money?" calls, but it's working at a theatre that I love, with really nice coworkers and a lovely bossman.

Then I went to Canada for basically an entire week, because I want [livejournal.com profile] ivorysilk to gay-Canadian-marry me so that I can move to Toronto and live in the basement with her bunnies. (We took a prom picture at Niagara, right under their perpetual rainbow, and it's actually engagement-card-announcement-level beautiful. Soon I shall turn her gay for me (that's totes possible, don't squish my dreams) and then steal her bunnies. Although soon I will not want to kidnap her bunnies quite as badly, because...

I'MMA GETTIN' A DOOOOOOOOOG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

*dance*

I'm picking him up later today from the Humane Society. He's some sort of scruffy minieature Schnauzer mix. He's 15 pounds of scruffy hair and snuggles. He was dropped off at a shelter in Kansas, which ran out of room, and so they sent him over to Minneapolis, where he climbed into my lap and started napping. They don't know anything about him. Except that at some point in his life someone named him Bowzer. That is not going to remain his name. No. Nu-uh. Not happening.

[The vast majority of these suggestions are from [livejournal.com profile] alfadorcat]

[Poll #1931067][Poll #1931067]

Now I'm off to Walmart to buy a crate, and clean my car out, and maybe use one of my IHOP GroupOns while I wait for thrift stores to open up, cause I need curtain rods and a king-sized bedsheet and any/all dog toys I can find. (I already have really cute water/food bowls.)

I'll post more soon (about the dog, and about my awesome roommates, and about my weird lease, and my on-hold dating life, and going back to Temple regularly). For now: a cool shower so I stop feeling like a melting children's toy, shopping, eating, DOG! :D
hoosierbitch: (FNL Threat "Lyla will use you for target)
Well, bugger. I can't actually put a poll in here. Stupid unpaid account.

Poll: (Answer in comments, if you feel like it, please? Anon is fine!)

Are you 'out' to your friends and family about your fandom involvement?
1) OMG NO
2) To some people about some things
3) Completely!
4) OTHER

Pretty much no one I knew in my MFA program (aka the last three years of my life) knew I was at all involved in/aware of fandom. My family kind of knows, because they're curious when I write all the time at home, and they ask about it and I'm not dishonest/evasive, just...vague. But. Most of what I write is either porn or indulgent id fic. And I feel...inexplicably vulnerable when I think about sharing it.

Next question:
If you were me, and your mom was all "I am awesome! I teach Women's Studies! You write all the time. I want to read something you've written!"

(I made the mistake of telling her one time "It's...sort of...porny." And she was like "...I do know about sex, HB." Although she used my actual name. And I deleted most of that conversation from my brain, because I'm pretty sure my parents have never had sex ever.)

But anyway.

If you were me, which of my fics would you show to my parents?

In completely unrelated news:
So You Think You Can Dance is on and I love it and it's beautiful and Mary Murphy is still my fave. If I remember correctly there are some fans of SYTYCD on my flist.

my subject line makes my life seem cooler than it is

my roommates are all international students

and i've only seen two of them

one of them keeps trying to talk to me in chinese.

there may or may not be a fourth roommate.

things i'm doing so that i won't sit in my room all the time (hi, depression!):
job interview tomorrow morning
sitting in a cafe right now
going for a rush ticket at the guthrie tonight
had breakfast with my brother this morning, doing a movie with him and his girlfriend tomorrow (it's his birthday. we're gonna see star trek. i am very okay with this.)
a date this sunday, with a sweet geeky guy. we're gonna do dinner at a veg restaurant and see 'gatsby.'

necessary postscript: i have dated, in the past seven years, a grand total of two people. (that threesome that time (okay, times) doesn't count. it was merely a lovely anomaly.)

i'm talking to two other people who i'll hopefully be meeting next weekend.

i have a new haircut that makes me feel cute, awesome boots, weird hipster shirts, a nice smile, and anti-anxiety medication. BRING IT, OKCUPID! \o/

now i am going to buy q-tips, call some apartment complexes (my sublease is up aug 10th), and go to thrift stores to find a blanket.

because blankets are cool.

1) I'm in rehearsals! Yay! *collapse* Our first week is almost wrapped up, and it's been really good so far. We've lost a lot of time to fight choreography (IDK why, but I do a lot of violent plays...), but the cast is focused and talented and more experienced than any ensemble I've worked with before, so we're barely behind. It's weird to not have to give notes in five different ways in order to be understood (part of that's just me getting better at directing, part of it is that all of the people in this cast know what they're doing!).
2) BUSY. With the exception of one day this week, where I had a whole afternoon free, I was on campus 9am-11:30pm every day. And that'll be my schedule for the next three weeks, too. It wasn't think bad when I had a car, because I could go home from 5pm-6pm and have dinner, but it's not that bad, BECAUSE:
3) I'M STILL COOKING!

I have made:
tofu stiry-fry (which wasn't that good but then I added black beans and fresh tomatoes and rice)
homemade hummus (GARLICKY AND DELICIOUS)
vegetable chili
potato soup
butternut squash soup
sweet potato casserole (which I've been rationing to myself to make it last longer)
a lot of burritos
and MICROWAVE POTATO CHIPS, which take, like, 10 minutes and are healthy and amazing.

I bring about three Tupperware containers with me to school each day now--lunch, dinner, and snacks (snacks are usually veggies with HOMEMADE HUMMUS, WHAT).

I need to get to a grocery store to get some more goods (the hardest part about cooking and not having a car is that shopping takes about two hours because of bus rides). I didn't make it to the grocery store yesterday, so I might not have time to go until Friday. Bah!

4) Vote in the thing! (Er. The election!) AND [livejournal.com profile] whitecollarlas! Here's the link to Round 3 voting info. (I missed the first two rounds, on account of how I am awful at things, but I actually got my story in on time this round!)
5) I have to go write a paper now. And then go to rehearsal. And then babysit a friend's new cat while she's in rehearsal. And then finish my paper. And then sleep. LIKE A BOSS.
6) :D
hoosierbitch: (kink silly stock porn ahead)
So last night, I was like: 'I'mma take a break from this long fic I'm working on, and write some random fun Avengers smut!'

Now I'm 6k into an omega!Clint fic. I don't really know how the alpha/beta/omega genre evolved, but I'm having fun writing a biologically driven D/s dynamic. Instead of a PWP, though, it's turning out all angsty and mildly plotty, and I've only just now gotten to a sex scene. It's not even with the main pairing.

MY PORN IS BROKEN.

Lala.

I spent two hours texting made-up insults with BFF today. We ended on "wheedledump" and "scatterass." My favorites, though, were "rumfuzzle" and "bumplefrump."

It's a fun game.

Summer camp is going well. I have snapped at some small children, but THEY DESERVED IT. O.o I made some time this week to work with two of the super-quiet girls, who are now almost audible when they talk onstage. I'm giving myself back-pats. \o/ The guy who's actually directing the play has been gone for the last three days, so I've gotten to do a lot more, which is great, but a couple of times rehearsal has started, and people start looking at me, and I'm stuck going: '...buzzwah?' Sometimes they neglect to tell me that no one else is coming in, and that I need to take charge and make schedules and find space. It's frustrating, but, ultimately, I'm learning more and getting great experience! POSITIVITY! (That's not a word. How is that not a word?)

Arizona's still hot, but thus far, it's nothing compared to St. Louis. I'd much rather be in 112 degree temp in AZ than 95 in St. Louis. Dry heat really does make a difference.

Um. Yeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaah.

This post has no nutritional value!
hoosierbitch: (FNL funny This icon is at the game)
re: subj line--"next to normal" anyone? yes. i saw that musical once, and they sang that line SO MANY TIMES that it pops into my head whenever i'm feeling lively after a down spell. it's replaced the zombie "i'm aliiiiiiiiiiiiive!"

*

So, it has been many moons (er, that means months, doesn't it. fortnights? couple-of-days-long-units-of-time) since I last updated.

Me in a nutshell: Finished out the year. Ended on a sour note with some people, which, I don't usually do, on account of how I avoid confrontation/negative interactions, so it threw me for a loop more than it perhaps should have. I'm heading to Phoenix in...a week (Phoenix! In ARIZONA!) for an internship. So, if my updating doesn't continue, it's possible that I've died of heat.

I should write a fuller entry on this, but: I got to meet [personal profile] arsenicjade a few weekends ago, and she is LOVELY. She got me hooked on Magnificent 7, and we ate delicious food (smoosh-in ice cream and Indian food and homecooked pasta sauce with delicious bread), and mostly we lounged. It was relaxing and invigorating and fun. :-)

Um. Let's see. I'm bad at recapping. Um. I have a bag! Like, a nice bag! From a department store! It's made for women! *stares at it* I saw it, and my brain (and body, actually) made grabby hands. We're in love. It's weird. *stares at it more* I'm not big on shopping, and I mostly stick to gender-neutral/butch clothing, but this BAG. *stares more*

Uuuuuuuuuuuuum I should go write fic now. I have this weekend empty of things to do, so I need to make sure I do not slack, because I will be a happier person if I am writing stories.

I think (hope) I'm coming out of a kind of nasty depressive swing. I'm generally pretty crap at transitional periods, and worrying about money is never good on top of that, and I'm moving house, and saying goodbye to the folks who are graduating, and also, I've just been lonely. Which. Yeah. Sucks. But! I am feeling more chipper (I am sooooooooooo alive) and I'm going to go write and comment on folks' entries (I am soooooooooooooooo behind) and at some point, I shall eat food! Probably while watching Captain America. Because the Avengers have eaten my brain.

OH SPEAKING OF THINGS THAT ATE MY BRAIN

IS THERE A WHITE COLLAR HUNGER GAMES AU YET?

BECAUSE ELIZABETH WOULD WIN THE HUNGER GAMES YOU GUYS.
hoosierbitch: (Psych funny silly Lassie OMG)
you know who's got two deadlines and sucks at planning? THIS guy!

that works much less good than it would if you could see me pointing at myself. not that i actually am, because i'm typing, and it's more of a metaphorical thing, but anyways.

so: toronto. IS AMAZING. and i've walked about a bazillion miles and gave myself shin splints and bought awesome boots (...hopefully, those two things are unrelated...) and saw WAR HORSE for practically NO MONEY and sat in the SECOND ROW and basically that was just the coolest ever.

i will post in more detail later, because i really need to sing [personal profile] ivorysilk's praises--she has been such a gracious host. also, she has bunnies, and a comfortable couch, and she has been really really nice to me even though she's crazy busy and is coming down with the flu.

which. um. okay. it is a good thing that she is so nice, because i was double-checking my plans for tomorrow, and realized that the bus ticket i got--to go to buffalo--does not go to the buffalo airport, it goes to the bus station, which is an hour away from the airport. i bought a ticket for the wrong route.

D: )

this is a not wonderful ending to what has otherwise been a truly spectacular vacation. i shall eat extra chocolate tomorrow morning to make sure it ends on a sweet note. and then i will write ridiculous kid!fic for [livejournal.com profile] ivorysilk so that hopefully she will not hate me.

to sum up: yay vacation, whoops geography, daaang school, hopefully porn!
hoosierbitch: (FNL funny This icon is at the game)
So, I have been doing really good on my diet. I've lost 26 pounds since I started in November (BOOYAH!). But every month, about a week/week-and-a-half before my period, I just want to EAT THE WORLD.

Did y'all know that you can buy whole pizzas from Sbarros? I think, if I bought one, I could maybe eat it in one sitting. It would also be about...3,700 calories. But if I take a really long walk tomorrow, that balances out, right? *sigh*

IN OTHER NEWS, JOHN CARTER IS GOING TO MARS.

*falls over*

Here's some pictures, and here's a link to the preview. I--I can't even--THIS MOVIE. I am going to write eighty million porns for it:
  • John Carter/that-little-dog-thing
  • John Carter/red-Lynn-Collins
  • John Carter/Willem-Dafoe-with-extra-porn-arms
  • John Carter/THE WALL HE GETS CHAINED TO HELLO KINK
  • RPF, because, okay, Taylor Kitsch was in "The Covenant" with Steven Strait, who's married to Lynn Collins, who was in X-Men: Origins with Taylor Kitsch, and now Taylor & Lynn are in another movie together and so THREESOME, RIGHT?
John Carter opens two weeks from Friday, and it pains me to the very depths of my soul that, because of my rehearsal schedule, I will not be at the IMAX theatre to see it in 3D at midnight. But the upside is that I'll get to watch it in Canada, with  [livejournal.com profile] ivorysilk and [personal profile] rabidchild67. I AM SO EXCITED FOR SPRING BREAK! It's my first time not staying on campus for a school vacation. Like, ever. I either camp in the library, or go stay with my 'rents and camp in different cafes. Not this year! Canadacanadacanadacanada.

RL update: I have now started rehearsals for my show, and it's going REALLY well! This also means my life is even more crazypants. I had a 15-hour work day on Monday, then Tuesday I woke up at 6am to finish a paper, and was in classes/meetings/writing another paper/in rehearsal until 2am. Like. What even is my life.

Things are going really well and I love what I'm doing, I just also love sleep.

...and now I'm going to go to Burger King and get a veggie burger and also all of their fries and chocolate shakes...

hoosierbitch: (Psych Funny Silly "T-Rex! Lookit my litt)
1. Hi, new friends! I feel like I should introduce myself.

2. MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: GHOST PROTOCOL IS A FANTASTIC MOVIE. I saw it with my brother two days ago, and am dragging my father to go see it with me again today. See it in IMAX. It will take your breath away. It's a smart, funny, intense, engaging action move, and it is visually stunning in a way that I've not seen in any other film (including Avatar and X Games 3D). I liked the story/characters in X-Men: First Class better, but I enjoyed the experience of Mission Impossible more. ALSO IS THERE H/C FIC FOR THIS YET? Because Tom Cruise gets lots of bruises and I need Jeremy Renner to bite some of them/take him to a hospital. STAT.

OH  OH  OH  ALSO:  THEY  SHOWED  A  PREVIEW  FOR  JOHN  CARTER DURING  THE  TRAILERS. I almost passed out before the movie had even started. Getting to see mostly-naked Taylor Kitsch should be reason enough to go see Mission Impossible.

3. CHICAAAAAAAAAAGOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!

MEET UP MEET UP MEET UP! This will be my fourth fandom meet-up, which seems insane, but every single one has been amazing. Some of the best experiences of my entire life. The first time I went to one of these I was kind of afraid that I was going to get ax-murdered, or that I would be disappointed by people in RL because they were so cool online. Also I was worried that no one would like me and I would be a sad lonely sitting-in-the-corner panda. Instead we ate pizza and watched episodes of things and I learned how to make sangria and played mad libs and felt completely and utterly at home.

YOU GUYS SHOULD COME. Me, [personal profile] rabidchild67, and [personal profile] elrhiarhodan are going to be there from Friday, January 13th to Monday, January 16th. If you want to come out for an afternoon, a day, a night, a meal, the whole thing, that would be awesome. If you are nervous, you shouldn't be (I am also willing to bribe/coerce/handhold). You can PM (...or, on DW...message?) me for details, or email me at whoisyourb@gmail.com.

Disclaimer: I'm not going to show up in dominatrix gear. For some unfathomable reason pay no attention to the porn behind the curtain, that seems to surprise people when I meet them for the first time. FYI, I much prefer jeans and comfy sweaters.

FIVE ACTS!

Oct. 18th, 2011 01:05 pm
hoosierbitch: (S Whipped back)
Life updates:
  • I'mma goin' to New York in two weeks! I'm gonna see [livejournal.com profile] rabidchild67 and [livejournal.com profile] elrhiarhodan and some other people whose LJ names I don't remember! I'm so exciiiiiited! *dancitydancedance* We're gonna see PLAYS! On the BROADWAY! AAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • The show I've been assistant directing opens tonight! It's been an amazing learning experience, a hellish rehearsal process, and has resulted in (hopefully, fingers crossed) a good show!
  • The children's show that I'm directing/acting in is doing well, which keeps me busy.
  • I've been watching too much TV and not writing enough, but that's a standard refrain for me. I'm thinking of trying NaNoWriMo. Anyone here looking at that?
  • Also, uh, I have a girlfriend? And. She's pretty? So. I like her? And. WE CARVED A PUMPKIN TOGETHER. We're in the very early stages of the relationship, and she's graduating after this semester so it's not like longterm would even be an option, but. WE WORE UGLY SWEATERS AND WENT BOWLING TOGETHER. \o/
OKAY MOVING ON.

I am super-late to Five Acts this round, so I'm just going to keep writing for a few days past the official close on the 20th. Y'ALL SHOULD PLAY! IT IS LOTS OF PORN FUN! Here's the comm description of what Five Acts is about:

Based on the community [livejournal.com profile] five_acts (check it out for more details!), we're going to have a week of indulging each other's favourite kinks, tropes, acts and pairings. We're onto round five now! In a nutshell, what we do is:

+ Post a list of your five favorite acts/kinks to read about. Check out this list if you need some inspiration. At the bottom of your post, add what fandoms/pairings you're interested in.
+ Read other people's lists; the master list of lists is here.
+ Post comment-fic based off of other people's interests.

Mah Kinks! Mah Kinks! Mah Lovely Lady Kinks! )
So! Write a ficlet in the comments here if anything tickles your fancy! And you should make your own list regardless so that I can wander over and porn all over you. BECAUSE I MISS YOU GUYS.
