  1. Moving sucks. BUT! The new house is lovely. All big furniture items are moved, the dogs have explored every nook and cranny of the new place, and we've met...four different neighbors! Who are all v. friendly. I think my dad's making a Guy Friend with one of the neighbors. THEY DRANK BEER ON THE PORCH TOGETHER. IT WAS ADORABLE.
  2. My Crazy Uncle has decided that my mom's offer of the entire basement as an apartment basically rent-free is not generous enough, because the washer and dryer have to be down there and he cannot handle that. So he's in a hotel now. Somewhere. Or possible he's donated all of his belongings to a Goodwill and gone back to being homeless, which was his back-up plan. *headdesk*
  3. No internet at new house yet. Will be even more out of touch the next week or so. SO SORRY!

Question for flist:

Working on a XMFC beach-aftermath fic, but I am historically/geographically stupid. What possible options are there for the team getting off the beach? What hospitals would they be close to? Would said hospitals have helicopters? Are there Canonical Facts about what transpired?

I'm going to see the movie again later today with my mom and hopefully Little Sister, who I bribed with an explanation about how the Xavier/Magneto divide was based on the different ideologies of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X.  She's been a King fan since she was a toddler. She used to sit everyone down and recite facts about Marfin Lufer King. (I miss her speech impediment.)
Back to writing. Half an hour before the movie, then will be spending the rest of the day packing up shit at the old house and hauling it to the new place.

HOW ARE YOU GUYS? GIVE ME UPDATES!

PROMPTFEST STARTS TOMORROW!

I am so excited. I really, really, really want to give writing something there a shot. Even if I don't do that, though, I will try to read and encourage the other writers.

Kudos to you for organizing it, as always.

Oh yeah, moving totally sucks. I haven't moved in a while, but I'm not keen on it either. I'm quite happy in my current appartment, if only it had one more room I could use as an office/guest room. Oh well, can't have everything, I guess.

And while you were talking about X-Men, I actually have a question, and you might be able to help me with it. I was rewatching the Origins: Wolverine movie last night (and I'm not one of the haters, I actually liked it). Is there any logical explanation other than continuity mess-up on the writers' part that explains why a young Xavier is hit by a bullet in the spine and ends up in a wheelchair in XMFC but an older Xavier (as in Patrick Stewart-old) walks out of the helicopter at the end of the Wolverine movie on his own feet? I don't really follow the fandom, but I have no doubt it's been discussed elsewhere...

Wow - that's just epic!writer!fail, isn't it? I only have ever watched the movies, but it sure sounds like a major f-up, doesn't it.

Jumpin' in, hi! *waves*

IMHO, the changes were intentional after critics basically ate Wolverine alive. XMFC should be a prequel but also a reboot at the same time. I think they deliberately set it as an AU to make a clear break from the rest of the movies, so that they could do anything they wanted should there be sequels. And since AUs are not uncommon in the X-Men comic books...

Also, Wolverine should have a sequel next year. Maybe they wanted to make two lines of movies set in the same comic book universe but independent on each other?

My reasoning: X-MEN ORIGINS WAS TOO CRAP TO EXIST. (Except, of course, for Tim Riggins Taylor Kitsch as Gambit.) Nothing in that movie actually happened.

Seriously though: the comics rewrite things when different writers/creators take over storylines, I figure same things happen with the movies. Different takes on the same canon.

You know, I consider it a deliberate AU. Which makes me happy because it does NOT have to end the way we saw in the other trilogy OR comic books...

Right. Well, I guess that kinda explains it. Like I said, I'm not really active in the fandom (and I've never read the comics), I just enjoy the movies. And I wasn't aware of the fact that they're supposed to be AUs to each other. Oh well... I'm gonna keep watching, whatever the next pre- or sequel is going to be.

I'm not sure if they are or aren't supposed to be AUs, officially, I mean. But there's just enough things different that it can't be an oversight. Well, in any case, it makes me happier that way ^_^

Re the ambulatory Xavier, AFAIK the short answer is that XMFC was deliberately set in a different continuity than the earlier films. There are plans to make sequels in this new 'verse.

Congrats on the house! Dunno about the beach yet. Am planning on getting to see the movie finally after the 15th! \o/ VERAH COOL about the MLK/Malcolm X dichotomy; I'd actually made that observation once! *is now proud of self*

Not much to update on except that I've been too busy to write. :-P But I'm working on that! Go, you, go go go!

Hey! What do you want for your charity fic??? I need inspiration!

I'ma add a bit I THINK SO? to the front of this, but:

I'd think that beach is supposed to be Cuba. You know, cuz, Cuban missile crisis and shiz? If it is, and if'n it's also maybe supposed to be close to Gitmo? You could have them taken there and transported from there. Could be interesting if Charles could, like, use his bitchin' mind control powers to control peeps into making that happen and getting them back to the US.

If that's not what you're looking for, you can pretend that beach is in the Bahamas or something maybe?

I'm sorry that moving sucks, but I'm glad that the new house is great! Yay! It's unfortunate that you don't have internet there yet, however; I hope that you get internet access soon.

I'm sorry, but I can't help you re: X-Men; I don't know anything about it!

Huhhh, X-men and civil rights. I get the parallels, but there was a bit where the ex and I ended up having a little whispered "did they SERIOUSLY just do THAT with THOSE CHARACTERS in a film set THEN?" conversation. I liked the movie immensely, but I do think they could've made better use of their setting.

The beach - since the film took a loose interpretation of events with the dramatic ship-to-shore thing rather than existing bases you could probably make it just about anywhere in Cuba on a Florida-facing coast? This might have some info about where the actual missiles were placed, though:

Florida would be the closest American land to them (as they were in Cuba for the beach scene), not sure on Floridian hospitals though. Hope that helps, if only a little.

I feel bad for you moving things. I am such a hoarder and nester it isnt funny. When I move into a new place (and i move a lot) I swear I am DYING in the place Im at cause I hate packing, unpacking, lifting, and setting down crap.

And unfortunately I suck with the geography bit too so I am no help on that front.

In news on my life, I went to Hell yesterday, also known to children as Chuck E Cheese.... I didnt self medicate before leaving since I was the unwilling driver....

I cooked for July 4th... I ate alone, but thats alright. I let my youngest sister drive my car on the back road leading to my mothers boyfriends house when I dropped her off today... I've been giving her practice time a lot recently so she is prepared for when she's old enough.

I also tried to explain the hot dog being tossed into a wide hallway joke to her, but she still didnt understand "loose women" references, so I am kind of happy about that... lol

Er, nothing else new for me...

I hope your July 4th was good at least. *hugs*

I'm at work. I've been here for ten hours and counting.

However, reading your post cheers me, and I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with for how/where Xavier ends up in hospital.
